A Day in the Life of a Steppingstone Scholar

Each summer, young Scholars dedicate six weeks of their vacation to preparing for college with Steppingstone. What’s it like to spend your summer with the Berylson Family Academy @ Steppingstone? Check out the photo gallery below to experience a day in the life of a Steppingstone Scholar!

8:00 am: Arrive at Steppingstone

Meet up with friends from throughout the city and prep for a day of hard work and fun.

8:15 am: Community Time gets everyone
“Fired up, ready to go!”

Start the morning off right by gathering as a community and celebrating each other’s achievements. Watch Teaching Assistants perform a funny skit about making new friends during recess.

8:35 am – 12:05 pm: Classes

Today, you’ll solve mysteries with forensic science, practice your multiplication tables, and discuss human rights with a guest from UNICEF. You’ll also learn new moves in your Caribbean dance elective, while friends head off to participate in electives like engineering, soccer, coding, and art.

12:05 pm: Lunch and free time

12:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Classes

After lunch, you’ll cool down with mindfulness exercises before heading back to class. Afternoon subjects include D.E.A.R., study skills, and writing. You’ll also practice teamwork during aPlay and talk about positive risk taking during Challenges & Choices.

It’s hard work, so we mix in a lot of fun, too!

3:30 pm: Heading Home

At the end of a long day, Scholars ride the bus home to more than 13 different neighborhoods, preparing for another busy day tomorrow (and getting ready to continue their journey with Steppingstone during the academic year)!

We’ve loved spending our summer with the Steppingstone community!
