Kyle Layne-Allen’s (The Steppingstone Academy ’03) journey has taken him from Steppingstone to Roxbury Latin to Colby College and back to Roxbury Latin. He shared his story with 330 guests at Roxbury Latin’s Annual Fund Kickoff, where he was the featured Alumni speaker.

Layne-Allen recalled that when he struggled, he often benefited from the tutoring and mentorship of José Vega, a member of Steppingstone’s Class of 1995 and Roxbury Latin’s Class of 2001. He ultimately went on to study English and classics at Colby College and, after working in sales and market research, returned to Roxbury Latin, where he works in the development office, coaches football, basketball, and lacrosse, and teaches Latin.
“Jose Vega, that Roxbury Latin tutor at Steppingstone many years ago, still guides me today. So, now when I teach Latin to a boy who may have fallen off course, I’m merely walking along my journey remembering to do for others what was once done for me.”
