We had an exciting few months at Steppingstone as the weather warmed up and Scholars of all ages celebrated everything they accomplished this school year. Before we officially kick off our summer programs, let’s take a glimpse back at springtime as a Steppingstone Scholar!
April Vacation Activities
Support Services hosted fun and enriching activities for middle and high school Scholars during April vacation. Scholars visited the Museum of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art, toured the Moakley Courthouse (and even got to meet with Judge Denise Casper in her chambers!), and, thanks to Steppingstone staff member Ms. Geruson, took a personalized, behind-the-scenes tour of Boston College. The group explored the campus and met with one of the AHANA (African, Hispanic, Asian and Native American) Center’s Associate Directors, who gave them all t-shirts and professional portfolios to take home. Below are a few photos from the tour!
CSA Overnight Retreats
This year marked the College Success Academy’s first-ever Overnight Retreats. Eighth-grade CSA Scholars spent a Friday night and Saturday morning at Boston College High School bonding with fellow Scholars and thinking about the past and the future.
Friday night’s focus was on reflection. Scholars tie-dyed shirts to signify class unity, watched a video of well wishes from faculty members, Advisors, and interns, and created a timeline of photos from their time at CSA to be displayed at Commencement. On Saturday, they looked forward to the future. They met their future Support Services Advisors, wrote letters to their future selves (to be opened their senior year of high school), and heard words of appreciation from staff and fellow Scholars.
The Scholars commenced on June 3! Congratulations, Class of 2016!
On April 26, Steppingstone held a reunion dinner for Scholars in their senior year of high school. It was a great chance to celebrate their years of hard work as they prepare for the next chapter in their academic careers! 40 Scholars enjoyed dinner, played games, and received their time capsules.
Steppingstone’s Spring Showcase provides an opportunity for Scholars to share the exciting things they’ve been learning with others. Scholars presented their work and showed their appreciation for the dedicated faculty who support them.
Edison School Art Show
The Thomas Edison K-8 School, a Steppingstone partner school, hosted an art show at which a number of CSA Scholars shared their artwork with the larger community. See their art below!
New Scholar Welcome Event
The Welcome Event marked the first time the newest Steppingstone Scholars were all in one room together. This year, more than 100 new Scholars joined us with their families to receive their very first Steppingstone shirts (a big milestone!), hear words of wisdom from current Scholars Rachel and Nawal, practice Steppingstone community cheers, and begin building friendships that could last through middle school, high school, college, and beyond.
We can’t wait to begin working with these Scholars at Milton Academy on July 5. They’d love to meet you – contact us to set up a site visit!
