Steppingstone’s Spring College Readiness Conference
February 27, 2016
Steppingstone’s 2016 College Readiness Conference was a rousing success! With 151 Scholars and families filling the halls of Boston Latin Academy on February 27, the school hummed with energy and excitement – you’d never believe it was early Saturday morning!
To get everyone fired up and ready to go, Alum Dalinda Ifill ’99 gave a keynote address about her journey to becoming an accomplished CBS production assistant. Speaking candidly about her challenges in middle and high school, Dalinda passed down thoughtful advice about overcoming adversity and achieving your goals.
Afterward, Scholars had the opportunity to participate in grade-appropriate workshops designed to get them thinking about college and beyond. Middle school Scholars attended workshops on subjects like how to get an early start on preparing for college and how online reputation can play a role in other parts of their lives. Meanwhile, high school Scholars honed their interviewing skills, learned how their interests and talents can be channeled into future careers, and got a comprehensive overview of the college application process. The conference is one of many ways Steppingstone provides Scholars with the support and resources to help them achieve their goals, and we greatly appreciated Scholars’ and families’ enthusiasm as they dedicated their Saturday to preparing for college!
Special thanks to everyone who helped out, including 6 Peer Leaders, 8 Support Services staff members, 12 other Steppingstone staff members, and all the families who accompanied their Scholars. Thanks also to Au Bon Pain and Roche Brothers for providing lunch!
